Follow our tips and you won’t go far wrong. - First of all mention where the job is based, as a favourable location is often what encourages a jobseeker to apply for a vacancy in the first place.
- Try to be as exact as possible in your advert about the salary or wages you are offering. It is far easier for an applicant to work out all the pros and cons of applying for the job if they know exactly what they can expect as take home pay, plus any perks that may be available. Some people lack negotiation skills and find it intimidating at an interview to have to push for a meaningful income.
- Make sure you outline any additional benefits that go with the job such as bonuses, gratuities or profit share options and live-in accommodation.
- Outline clearly what the job entails, giving an accurate description of the role required by the applicant and listing exactly what skills or qualifications are needed. This will help jobseekers determine whether they are suitable for the position advertised.
- If the position you are advertising holds special responsibilities it is important to get those across in your advert, so there can be no future misunderstanding.
- Don’t forget to provide an exact job title as this is often what catches the eye of a jobseeker.
- It is also useful to add some basic and encouraging, details about your company, by way of an introduction. This gives applicants an insight into the kind of organisation they are applying to for their future job.
- Always include a contact name and reference, where possible, as it makes your company seem more approachable and also makes the jobseekers feel reassured that although an online job application is an automated process, they are at the same time also dealing with human beings.
- Check your advert layout – make sure it is easy to read with plenty of line breaks or paragraphs. Watch out for spelling mistakes and bad grammar. Does it say everything you wish to convey? Have you listed any additional benefits, promotional prospects or exciting travel options?
- Finally, remember on no account should your advert contain swear words and in particular no form of age, racial or sexual discrimination.
